Harrogate's Thug Sandwich has announced it is closing after a planned sale of the business fell through.
The Albert Street takeaway shared the news in a statement on social media, thanking customers and staff for their support over the years.
Thug is owned by chef Daniel Bell, who founded the independent sandwich shop in 2018 with his partner Soph.
A spokesperson for Thug Sandwich said:
“For the past few months, we’ve been doing everything we could to keep Thug going while we worked towards a sale and a new chapter for the business.
“Unfortunately, that sale has now fallen through and, after a lot of thought, it means it’s time to close our doors.”
The shop was put on the market in 2025, when owner Daniel explained that working six days a week for more than six years had become unsustainable for him personally.
By August 2025, the asking price had been reduced to £50,000 in an effort to find a buyer.
In their latest message, the team thanked everyone who had supported the independent takeaway.
The spokesperson said:
“Thank you to every person who came through the door, brought a mate, queued in the rain, ordered the usual, shouted us out, or simply gave us a chance over the years.”
They also paid tribute to the staff who had helped build the business.
The spokesperson added:
“And a huge thank you to every member of staff who has been part of Thug.
"You made it a pleasure to turn up to work every day and helped shape the character of Thug Sandwich.
"We could never have done it without you.
“We’re incredibly proud of what Thug became, and grateful for the support you gave us.”
The statement did not specify a final trading date.
