A Harrogate resident living with motor neurone disease (MND) has created a recipe calendar to fundraise for charity.
Judy Hill has created a Carer’s Calendar together with her live-in carers, Yvonne and Massy.
She receives live-in care at home from Carefound Home Care and has always had a passion for cooking and baking, from hosting dinner parties to crafting delightful meals.
To support the MND Association, she decided to put together a Carer’s Calendar featuring delicious recipes for people to try each month.
Although MND has made it difficult for Judy to use her hands and arms, her carers really embraced the idea by digging out her old recipe books, some dating back to 1904, and creating some dishes to enjoy.
They each chose two savoury and two sweet recipes along with photos to inspire people in the kitchen.
All the recipes have been cooked for, tested and tasted by Judy, and her Granddaughter, Ana, cooked her four recipes on her behalf.
Judy explained:
“From very small beginnings when chatting to my Carefound Home Care carers, Massy and Yvonne, about parties I used to give we moved on to trying some of the recipes from my old cookery books.
“We wondered whether others might enjoy tasting our favourite dishes too and so produced the Carer’s Calendar.
“Thank you for buying our calendar, and thus benefiting research into motor neurone disease.
“Massy, Yvonne and I hope you have pleasure in preparing and eating some of the dishes we have suggested.”
Shabz Khokar, Head of Supporter Care at the MND Association, said:
“We want to thank Judy, Massy and Yvonne for everything they have done to put this calendar together - the recipes really do sound delicious!
“The money raised from the sale of this calendar will help us to support people living with MND and their families, while funding cutting edge research projects into potential new treatments for this devastating disease.
“Every penny will make a huge difference to the work we do and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
The Carer’s Calendar is priced at £8, with all proceeds going directly to the MND Association.
You can order your wire-bound A3 copy of the calendar at www.carefound.co.uk/carers-calendar or by contacting Carefound Home Care’s local branch in Harrogate on 01423 774070.
