Harrogate railway station has been named among the UK's top 50 in new research.
The station ranked 33rd out of 210 stations analysed by train ticketing platform TrainPal, achieving an overall score of 81.49 out of 100.
The research assessed station facilities, performance and reputation, nearby food and drink, and local amenities.
Harrogate performed particularly well for its station experience, scoring 95.1 out of 100 – ahead of Glasgow Queen Street, Leeds and Edinburgh Waverley.
This category considered facilities including accessibility, toilets, seating, sheltered waiting areas, Wi-Fi, refreshments, shops and mobile connectivity.
Harrogate’s score for nearby amenities was lower, at 62.7 out of 100.
Elsewhere in Yorkshire, Leeds finished eighth overall with a score of 87.41, while York came one place behind Harrogate in 34th, scoring 81.1.
London Liverpool Street topped the rankings, followed by Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street.
Harrogate was among several smaller stations to make the top 50, alongside Stirling, Dundee, Southport and Eastbourne.
The research was accompanied by a survey of 2,000 UK adults exploring what people enjoy about spending time at railway stations.
People-watching was the most popular way to pass the time, chosen by 33% of respondents. Almost a quarter (24%) enjoyed sitting down and relaxing, while 22% liked watching trains come and go and 20% enjoyed grabbing a coffee.
More than a third (37%) said a station’s character could make it feel like more than somewhere to catch a train, while 34% valued a sense of history.
A welcoming and friendly atmosphere mattered to 28%, with 22% saying a connection to the local area helped improve their experience.
