Harrogate Rugby Club reveals plans for clubhouse expansion and padel courts

Harrogate Rugby Club's clubhouse on Rudding Lane.

Harrogate Rugby Club has launched a public consultation on plans to expand its clubhouse and build four covered padel courts.

The club is proposing a single-storey extension of around 710 square metres at its Rudding Lane site.

Plans include a larger lounge and bar, a function room, a catering kitchen, offices, meeting space and an upgraded gym.

The existing gym would be converted into two additional changing rooms. The proposals also include improvements to parking.

The padel courts would sit north of the clubhouse and have floodlights to allow play when daylight is limited.

The club says they would be designed to accommodate wheelchair users.

Harrogate Rugby Club says the new facilities would support its long-term financial future and provide more opportunities for members and the wider community to take part in sport.

The site is within the Green Belt and the Crimple Valley Special Landscape Area.

The club says further information on how the plans address those designations will be included in a planning application.

A drop-in consultation event will take place at the club on Wednesday 30 September, from 3pm to 7pm. People can also comment through the consultation website until Friday 23rd October.

The club says it aims to submit a planning application in December, after reviewing the feedback.
