Local MP Tom Gordon has secured a Government commitment to support the new owners of Slingsby Gin after raising the future of the business in the House of Commons.
During Business and Trade questions, the Liberal Democrat MP highlighted the challenges that led to Slingsby Gin entering administration earlier this year.
He asked the Government to back new owners Chris and Asma Williams as they begin the next chapter for the Harrogate brand.
Responding on behalf of the Government, Blair McDougall wished the couple well, saying:
"It is entrepreneurial spirit like that that drives the economy forward.
The Minister also highlighted the expansion of UK Export Finance, which helps businesses access new markets, adding that "the best way to become a more resilient business is for them to open up and diversify their markets."
He offered to put Chris and Asma in touch with the UK Export Finance team to discuss the support available.
Speaking after the exchange, Tom Gordon said:
"Slingsby Gin is a brand that Harrogate is rightly proud of, and it was a real blow to see it go into administration earlier this year.
"Chris and Asma are giving it a new lease of life, and I wanted to make sure the Government is behind them.
"I'm pleased the Minister has committed to making sure they can access the support UK Export Finance has to offer.
"Local businesses like Slingsby are the backbone of our economy in Harrogate and Knaresborough, and I'll keep fighting to make sure they get the backing they need to grow and succeed."
