Harrogate girl selected for Team GB ahead of Biathle World Championships An 11-year-old girl from Harrogate is set to represent Team GB at the Biathle World Championships. Amaja Waters has been selected for the Under 13 girls Biathle Team for the event in Bali in November. The Biathle event includes a continuous run, swim and another run and is part of the Pentathlon family. Currently leading the Yorkshire Championship in the under 13 girls category, Amaja has won all the meets she has entered in the 2023 season. Having taken part in the GB qualifier at Salford Quays, Amaja gained the qualification entry for the under 13 girls category. She said:
"My dream is to be able to go and compete for my country. This is very important to me as this is potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity and to have achieved this at 11 years of age is amazing. "I have set myself the goal of winning the world championships in Bali this year."[caption id="attachment_78590" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Amaja Waters will represent Team GB.[/caption] Amaja is a keen sportsperson and swims for Harrogate District Swimming Club. She is part of the Swim England Talent Pathway and has also competed in National School Championships in middle distance running and attained regional level distance running qualification times. As GB Pentathlon are unable to financially support their younger athletes, Amaja is hoping to raise funds towards kit, travel expenses and accommodation through sponsorship. She has also launched a GoFundMe page which can be found here. For more information, contact Amaja’s mum Rachel via email: rachwebber72@gmail.com Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
