A Harrogate care home has made a generous donation to a local organisation that is committed to combatting loneliness and isolation in the elderly.
As part of its commitment to the surrounding community, Care UK’s Harcourt Gardens on Harcourt Road has presented Supporting Older People with £2,000.
The group is committed to alleviating loneliness and isolation often experienced by older people living on their own.
It achieves this through recruiting volunteer befrienders, drivers and fundraisers that organise social activities, outings and events.
The donation, which will see Harcourt Gardens become Supporting Older People’s Lead Business Champion, is the latest milestone in a longstanding partnership between the home and charity.
Other key initiatives born out of the collaboration also include the home’s popular Gentleman’s Club and a Cinema Club, open to older people in the community.
Julia Lightfoot, Befriending and Activities Manager at Support Older People, said:
“We’ve always valued our relationship with Harcourt Gardens, so we’re delighted to take it to the next level and welcome them as our Lead Business Champion.
“Their donation will go a long way in enabling us to continue to serve the Harrogate community by organising events and activities that bring joy, connection and companionship to all. Thank you to Care UK and Harcourt Gardens; we’re looking forward to many more years of working together.”
Barbara Wilkinson, Home Manager at Harcourt Gardens, added:
“We’re proud to celebrate yet another milestone in our longstanding partnership with Supporting Older People, a local charity whose philosophy has always aligned closely with ours here at the home.
“We know how important these groups are in reducing loneliness, especially to older members of the community. Supporting Older People provides fantastic support, presenting an opportunity for them to meet new friends, socialise with old ones and create memorable moments together.
“We hope this donation encourages the organisation to continue the valuable work it provides to the Harrogate community.”
