The trust confirmed its commitment to supporting patients, staff and the local community to quit smoking.
The announcement coincides with Stoptober, the annual national campaign encouraging people to stop smoking for 28 days.
The pledge aims to support work already underway across the NHS to reduce smoking rates and help achieve the Government's ambition for England to be smokefree by 2030.
According to national figures, more than five million adults in England still smoke, and smoking remains the largest preventable cause of illness and death.
Nearly 75,000 people in the UK die each year from smoking-related causes, with the habit costing the NHS and social care around £3 billion annually.
The pledge at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust was signed by Chief Executive Jonathan Coulter, Chair Sarah Armstrong and Executive Medical Director Dr Jacqueline Andrews.
As part of the commitment, the Trust will continue to support tobacco-dependence treatment, ensure access to quit-smoking medication, create smokefree environments and work with partners to reduce smoking rates locally.
The Trust already provides an in-house stop-smoking service and, in line with national guidance, now permits the use of e-cigarettes in certain outdoor areas to help smokers switch to vaping as a way to quit.
Jonathan Coulter said signing the pledge “is a powerful statement of our dedication to improving public health,” adding, “We are committed to supporting patients and staff in their journey to quit smoking and to ensuring our facilities promote wellbeing and recovery.”
Dr Jacqueline Andrews said:
“Stopping smoking can have immediate and long-term health benefits and enhance the quality of life.
"For someone in our care, being smokefree during a hospital stay can help them to heal and recover faster.”
The Trust is encouraging anyone looking to quit to access support through the NHS and local stop-smoking services.
More information on stopping smoking can be found at the NHS Better Health website or through the Smokefree Pledge resources online.
