Former England footballer backs launch of new Knaresborough restaurant A brand new bar and restaurant is already proving popular with the Knaresborough community - and a former footballer who lives in the area. Ex-Leeds United and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson is a regular at 1858 Bar and Restaurant on Knaresborough's High Street. 1858 officially opened on 24th August in the former NatWest bank, which closed in 2017. The venue is named after the year the building was constructed and provides lunch and evening meals, Sunday roasts and drinks. [caption id="attachment_80350" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] 1858 Bar and Restaurant in Knaresborough.[/caption] And Knaresborough resident Paul, who played for Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur during his playing days, is already a huge 1858 fan. He told Your Harrogate:
“I love the character and the respect that 1858 have paid to the old building. The new development brings something new to the High Street and to Knaresborough. "It’s a tight knit community and everyone helps each other out in this industry and this is just another fantastic addition to the town centre."The menu at 1858 includes dishes from the grill, burgers, seafood and vegetarian dishes. But it's the Sunday lunches that have proven most popular with diners thus far. Speaking about the food, Paul said:
“The owner Jaime is a good friend of mine and so we got to sample quite a few of the taster menus. "Sunday lunch was pretty spectacular along with the other menu which they’re still adapting and working on during the week.
