Driver jailed after 130mph police chase ends in Knaresborough

Police chased a disqualified driver who hit speeds of more than 130mph.

A disqualified driver has been jailed after a police pursuit at speeds of more than 130mph ended in Knaresborough.

Mohammed Muqadas Hussain, 22, of Heaton Road in Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was sentenced at York Magistrates’ Court to 12 months in prison and banned from driving for a further 18 months. He was also ordered to pay court costs.

The pursuit began at around 12.48am on Wednesday 23rd September after Hussain failed to stop for Durham Police.

The vehicle travelled into North Yorkshire, where Roads Policing officers picked it up on the A1(M) at Junction 50.

Hussain continued south, reaching speeds of more than 130mph as he tried to evade officers.

At one point, he drove at 110mph through a 30mph zone and went the wrong way around a roundabout near Morrisons in Minskip.

He then travelled along the A6055 towards Knaresborough Golf Club before eventually stopping on Blackthorn Avenue in Knaresborough.

Hussain abandoned the vehicle and ran from officers but was arrested a short time later.

He appeared in court and was jailed just two days after the pursuit.

North Yorkshire Police has released footage showing some of the dangerous driving officers encountered.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

“Our Roads Policing officers work around the clock to target those who put themselves and other road users at risk.

“If you’re disqualified, don’t drive. If you fail to stop for us, expect our officers to come after you.”
