Police are appealing for witnesses and information following reports of an "unprovoked" attack on a dog in Boroughbridge.
It happened at around 10.30am on Saturday (27th December) on the canal tow path by the lock near Milby Island.
The dog was kicked in the head and knocked unconscious.
He also suffered a laceration above an eye which required veterinary attention.
The owner said the attack was “unprovoked” and that the suspect walked away following the incident, having acted aggressively towards the owner.
A police spokesperson said:
"We are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or information which may help identify the suspect.
"He is described as white, aged in his 40s, around 6ft 1in, athletic build and wearing long boots.
"The suspect was walking a large black fluffy dog."
