Cattle worth £17,000 stolen from farm near Ripley

Police have launched an appeal after cattle, believed to be worth around £17,000, were stolen from a family farm in Ripley.

North Yorkshire Police say they received a report at 9.44am on Monday (27th July) that approximately eight cows had been stolen from between Harrogate and Ripon.

The family said the stolen cattle were 24-month-old Charolais and Limousin breeds.

They added that the cattle are individually tagged and identifiable - but expressed concern that the animals could be re-tagged or moved on quickly without the correct passport documentation.

The family said:

"We hope that by raising awareness, someone may remember seeing unusual vehicle movements overnight, be offered cattle matching this description, or have information that could help the investigation."

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area or who has information to come forward.

A spokesperson said:

“An investigation is ongoing and officers are now appealing for information.

"Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference 12260143621."

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
