Blackpool Zoo's missing pelican found in Knaresborough A pelican that went missing from Blackpool Zoo has been found in Knaresborough - 65 miles away. An Eastern white pelican had been missing from the zoo since 4th August after it was scared by gulls and then blown away by a gust of wind. Zookeepers found the pelican at Hay-a-Park Gravel Pits after setting up a 24-hour hotline to find the bird. Blackpool Zoo has thanked the public for their “invaluable help" during the search by reporting sightings in Lytham, Fleetwood and Harrogate. A spokesperson said:
“Many went above and beyond to assist by sending pictures, videos and exact coordinates of sightings, going back to locations to keep watch for hours on end and even bringing food for keepers when they were responding to calls.”The pelican is now in the animal hospital at Blackpool Zoo where it is being given a full health check. It has had its wings clipped and will be quarantined before being returned to the flock in the near future. Read more local stories from Your Harrogate here.
