Supermarket giant Asda has announced plans to upgrade some of its major stores across Yorkshire.
The Harrogate store on Bower Road is among several sites selected for refurbishment as part of a £7.2 million investment aimed at enhancing the in-store experience for customers.
The Leeds-based retailer, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, aims to complete the upgrades by the end of the year.
Asda stores in Harrogate, York, Hull, Pudsey, and Keighley will all undergo modernisations.
They will each receive a full shop floor refurbishment, including a ‘more intuitive’ layout, feature lighting and vibrant neon signage.
An additional £4.6 million is being allocated to stores in the wider region, including Grimsby and Stockton-on-Tees, with plans to expand the upgrade programme to more UK locations next year.
Refurbishment work is scheduled to begin in most locations in September and will take approximately seven weeks per store.
All stores - including Harrogate - will remain open to customers throughout the improvement works.
Liz Evans, Asda’s Chief Commercial Officer – Retail and Non-Food, said:
“We’re proud to continue investing in the communities we serve – especially in Yorkshire, where our story began 60 years ago.
"Following the successful refurbishment of our Pilsworth store earlier this year, we’re pleased to share our plans to modernise these Yorkshire stores and further enhance the shopping experience.”
The announcement follows the successful £2 million transformation of Asda’s Pilsworth store in Bury, Lancashire, which reopened earlier this year to positive customer feedback.
