Appeal after attempted ram raid at Wetherby Services

CCTV appeal: The man police believe will help with their investigation.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted ram raid at Wetherby Services in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

The incident happened at around 2am when a black vehicle, believed to be an older-model Nissan Juke, was driven through doors near the M&S Food store.

Police say the vehicle was then used to repeatedly ram a standalone ATM before four men wearing face coverings and gloves targeted an "&PLAY" cash payout machine.

Two of the suspects attached what is believed to have been a chain to the machine, which was pulled free using the Nissan Juke before being loaded into the back of the vehicle.

A Nissan Juke has since been recovered in the Leeds area after being set on fire. Officers also found the stolen cash machine inside the vehicle.

A police spokesperson said:

"We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen the vehicles prior to the collision, or anyone with relevant information that could assist our investigation."

Detectives are also keen to identify and speak to three men who may have witnessed the incident and could have information relevant to their enquiries.

Officers have stressed they believe the three men are witnesses and do not believe they were involved in the offence.
