22 year old Freddie from Harrogate is set to take part in the Half Ironman in Vietnam.
Freddie Yates is due to take part in the 70.3-mile race in Da Nang on 10th May.
Participants complete a 1.9 kilometre swim, a 90 kilometre cycle and a 21.1 kilometre run consecutively.
The race takes place during Vietnam’s dry season, where high temperatures are expected to add to the difficulty of the challenge.
Freddie has been travelling across South East Asia for the past six months following his time at university, and has been preparing for the event while on the move.
His training has included running through towns, swimming in open water and using gym facilities where available.
He has also been sourcing equipment locally in Vietnam ahead of the race.
He is using the event to raise money and awareness for a charity set up by his former Newcastle University rugby coach, Andrew Kennedy.
The organisation supports young people experiencing mental health difficulties.
