Reports of a stolen car lead North Yorkshire Police to a drug arrest on the A1(M) near Wetherby on Friday (12th November).

A hire company had reported a car stolen after the user had failed to pay the bill.

And after stopping the vehicle near junction 45 on the A1(M), officers reported a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group and Operational Support Unit found a large bag of cannabis in the boot.

A police statement said:

"The driver, a man from London in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of the theft of the vehicle, and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

"And his luck went from bad to worse when he was further arrested for driving without a licence or insurance.

"Enquiries are ongoing, and the car will be returned to its rightful owner."
