Harrogate Hospital Radio has won two gold awards at the National Hospital Radio Awards.

The radio station has won 'Best Specialist Music Programme' for its Solid Gold Sixties with Ellie Jackson and 'Best Programme with Multiple Presenters' for The Happy Hour with Daniel Wilson, Mark Oldfield and Ollie Thomas.

The National Hospital Radio Awards were held on Saturday 13th April 2024, during a gala dinner at the HBA Annual Conference in Winchester.

Oliver Johnson, Publicity Officer for Harrogate Hospital Radio said:

"I am overjoyed for our award winners.

"I see firsthand how much effort and dedicated is put into the production of all our shows, which are broadcasted on our radio station, with the aim to provide entertainment to patients, staff and visitors of Harrogate District Hospital, including listeners within the Harrogate District.

"I’m confident you will concur with me that it is a wonderful accomplishment that the award winning trio, Daniel, Mark and Ollie also received the identical award in the 2023 award ceremony,

"In summation, these awards are a direct result of the continued combined commitment and dedication of all our volunteers. I look forward to sharing the success of Harrogate Hospital Radio in 2024 and beyond’’.

The judges were impressed with the Happy Hour.

They said:

"The happy hour felt like a special entry which shone out above the rest for its warmth. It's both fun AND funny, presented by brilliant volunteers and I'd quite like to be their friends’’.

The Hospital Broadcasting Association is the national charity that supports and promotes Hospital Broadcasting in the United Kingdom.

The judges continued:

"If you love solid gold sixties then you will love this show.

"It's full of great songs, intertwined with interesting facts that keep you listening.

"But, more than that, Ellie clearly loves this music. It means something to her.

"Each song brings back memories and she shares her stories in a way that not many people are willing to. She brings the music to life and is a real gem."
